The Marryat Players gave their first orchestral concert in October 2000 and since then have gone on to give several concerts each year, both in the Great Hall at King’s College School, Wimbledon, as well as a weekend of chamber music concerts by award-winning musicians at 3 Marryat Road, Wimbledon Village, each summer.
The Marryat Players Chamber Orchestra is made up of 40 talented young musicians who come together in the Easter holidays to rehearse intensively for five days at the orchestra’s home in Marryat Road. The players are supported by young professional musicians and music students who act as mentors, as well as being guided by conductors including Alexander Baillie, Tim Boulton, Matthias Feile, Robert Max and Leandro Silvera. Their repertoire stretches from Bach to Piazzolla, and includes five new compositions written especially for the orchestra. The Marryat Players have worked with several celebrated soloists including Nicola Benedetti, Alina Ibragimova and Piers Lane. The next orchestral concert will be on 12th April 2018 conducted by Robert Max.
In 2015, the Marryat Players launched their first Chamber Music Festival at 3 Marryat Road. This summer will see the fourth festival take place under the patronage of distinguished cellist Steven Isserlis. The festival, which takes place from 14th to 17th June 2018, comprises concerts by award-winning musicians, a lecture and an education programme for three young string ensembles.
